Highland Village city crews, under a permit issued by the Texas Department of Transportation, will temporarily limit the function and movement at the median opening at FM 2499 and Barton Creek, which provides cross access for The Shops at Highland Village located on the west side of FM 2499 and the Marketplace of Highland Village on the east side of FM 2499.
Traffic restriction delineators will be installed on Tuesday. The new traffic pattern will prohibit left turns out of the two centers and cross traffic at the intersection, according to a news release.
Exiting from both the Shops at Highland Village and the Marketplace at Highland Village will be by right turn only.
Over the past year,Highland Village public safety crews have responded to 221 calls for service at the intersection. Since 2010, public safety officials have responded to 16 accidents.
City officials are working with TxDOT to develop a warrant study with the ultimate goal of a signal light at the intersection.
The temporary traffic flow pattern is intended to provide safe ingress and egress to both centers, officials said.
Drivers in the area should continue to use caution and consider alternative routes, such as exiting the Shops at Highland Village at Chinn Chapel on the west side and exiting the Marketplace at Highland Village at the Marketplace Lane and Live Oak Lane traffic signal.
