Foodie Friday: A Foodie Friday First!

I’m not sure how this has happened, but somehow we realized that we have not tried out any local Mexican/Tex-Mex restaurants! How that’s possible considering we’re in Dallas, Texas – I’m not sure. But we FINALLY made it out to one of our locally-owned Tex-Mex restaurants this week for some delicious food.

When we were at Savory Bistro in Bartonville Town Center a couple weeks ago, we really fell in love with the area. So, this week we went back for some awesome food at Mi Sueño Tex Mex! And we knew we were in good hands because they’ve won three categories in the Best of Denton County: Best Mexican, Best Margarita and Best Dinner.

Mi Sueño is perfectly situated in the Bartonville Town Center and has an awesome patio that overlooks the waterfalls and creek that runs through the development. And with the beautiful sunshine yesterday, it was the PERFECT place to sit and have lunch.

It’s owned by David Cerda and his wife, Lynne – who have always had a dream to open their own Tex-Mex restaurant. Which is appropriately where the name Mi Sueño comes from (it means “my dream” in Spanish). David said he and his wife were attracted to Bartonville because of the growth potential in the area and the opportunity to serve great Tex-Mex fare to local residents.

With a wealth of experience amongst their staff, Mi Sueño serves a great variety of options. You can enjoy all your favorite Tex-Mex dishes as well as some specialty items including seafood, steak and chicken dishes.

While we debated what to order, we chowed down on some delicious chips and salsa. Kari is a Tex-Mex connoisseur, so believe us when we say that the salsa was incredibly fresh-tasting and had the perfect amount of spice to it. She’s tried a lot of salsas in her lifetime so… she knows what she’s talking about.

Ultimately we decided to take advantage of their great lunch specials, which allow you to choose from one of their pre-determined combinations or to make your own, choosing from different enchiladas, tacos and tamales.

We ordered the #3 special which includes a taco al carbon served with your choice of chicken or beef, one cheese enchilada, bean or tortilla soup, guacamole, sour cream and rice. Everything had an awesome flavor to it. The red sauce on the enchilada was delicious and the meat was seasoned perfectly. And the corn tortillas are thick and soft, just the way a good homemade corn tortilla should be.

We also ordered the #5 special. it’s two beef or chicken fajita enchiladas topped with their special avocado sauce and is served with rice and beans. The avocado sauce was seriously one of the best things I’ve ever had. It was creamy and had great flavor to it and went perfectly with the fresh corn tortillas.

Mi Sueño also serves a great variety of breakfast dishes, including Huevos Rancheros, Huevos Con Papas, Chorizo and Chilaquiles.

And since they were voted the Best Margarita in Denton County, we can’t forget about their great bar area. Over the summer, they have a special Summer Happy Hour Monday-Saturday from 11am-6pm, Friday and Saturday from 9pm-Close and all day Sunday.

They also frequently have live music in the bar or on the patio – the perfect excuse to come and grab some delicious food, a drink and listen to some music on a warm Summer night. And if you want a private event, they can handle that for you too. There’s have a private room that can accommodate up to 25 people and can accommodate larger groups depending on the day and time. And they’ve also catered events for up to 200 people if you’re looking for someone to cater your next event.

So, no matter what your favorite Tex-Mex dish is, head out to Mi Sueño this weekend to try out what they have to offer. You’ll really enjoy the environment, the staff is incredibly friendly and the food is so good.

There you have it, Foodies! Our first Tex-Mex review! It’s always a great time for Mexican food, so take the family out for some awesome food this weekend!
