Jags spoil Marcus Senior Night, fight Mauraders to 0-0 tie

The Flower Mound High School Jags gave highly-touted Marcus all they could handle on Tuesday night in the last week of district action.

The Jags controlled play much of the night and probably had more quality scoring chances than their crosstown rival.

From the outset, the fiesty Jags showed more energy and had great scoring chances from Cam Riley, Taylor Smith and Nick Dombroski. It was a bit more like a prize fight with each squad taking the best shots from their rival without giving in.

The Flower Mound defense of Ezra Richardson, Grant Adams, Ryan Mulkey and Tyler Wettstein frustrated the Marcus strikers all night and controlled the box for the Jags.

When a scoring chance came, Jag goalie Michael Martin was sure-handed and made several leaping, diving saves including one save that resembled a rugby scrum more than soccer. Will Parr, John Satterla and Joseph Chamberlain worked hard to control the middle of the field and Kyle Mann came in to give the Jags quality time and a spark off of the bench.

The JV Jag teams played equally hard as both teams fought their Marcus counterparts to 1-1 ties.

The Jags will finish their regular season against Denton Ryan at home on Friday night as all teams will be in action.
