It’s a new year and how about you treat yourself to learning something new this year? The Denton County/Texas A&M AgriLife Extension office has several upcoming classes that you can take part in.
First off, there’s “Design For Your Yard: A comprehensive study on designing your own landscape. ” This class is perfect for those of you who would like to renovate or update your landscape yourself. This class will start January 13, there is a $15 fee and pre-registration is required. The class runs for four Monday evenings 7 pm to 9 pm. On January 18, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension along with the City of Denton Clear Creek Natural Heritage Center are offering a class on “Backyard Fruit Trees.” This free class will be taught by Ashley Hartman, the horticulture instructor at North Central Texas College and part of the class will be a site visit to the orchard at Shiloh Field. This class will start at 10 am at Clear Creek Natural Heritage Center and end around 12:30. Dress for the weather because we plan to plant a fruit tree! On February 10, the Master Gardeners kick off their Spring Library Garden Series at Flower Mound Library on Mondays at 7 pm. These free lectures will include “Behind the Scenes at the Dallas Arboretum,” “Plant This, Not That,” and “Preserving the Harvest.” On March 3, the presentation will be “Garden Harmony 101” taught by Steven Chamblee the Chief Horticulturist for Chandor Gardens in Weatherford.
On February 15, you can bring your honey for a romantic Valentine’s weekend lecture on beekeeping (romance not guaranteed). This morning class will be held at Clear Creek Natural Heritage Center and will be presented by a member of the Collin County Beekeeper’s Association.
February 20 will be a day to learn about aquaponics! This class will consist of a lecture via the web and a hands-on portion. Details are still forming on this class, but save the date if you are interested in this emerging topic.
