Delashaw wins Argyle council seat in runoff

Joan Delashaw narrowly defeated Jackie Thomas by 12 votes for a seat on Argyle Town Council in a runoff election on Saturday.

Delashaw garnered 306 votes, or 51 percent, to Thomas’ 294 votes, 49 percent.

Delashaw, 75, a retired federal government employee, touted her experience in career, civic and volunteer positions and knowledge of town’s history by attending council meetings for the last 23 years. She has lived in Argyle for 39 years and is a member of the Argyle Planning and Zoning Board.

Thomas, 42, had occupied the Place 5 council seat until this May but chose to run in Place 3.  She is the Executive Director of Argyle Parks & Arts, Inc. and has served on the town’s Planning & Zoning commission, Board of Adjustments and the Argyle Crime Control and Prevention District board.

Both women earned 320 votes a piece in their initial quest for the Place 3 seat on May 12.

There were 601 total ballots cast during the runoff, according to the Denton County Elections Administrator, which represents 24.87 percent of registered voters in the town.
