Flower Mound restaurant gutted by fire

An early morning fire Tuesday gutted the Dickey’s Barbecue Pit on FM 2499 in Flower Mound.

“The fire started after 6:00 a.m. in the rear of the building and possibly involved the smokers,” said Eric Metzger, Flower Mound Fire Chief.

“The fire ran through the attic and into the dining room where it set off the fire alarm. The kitchen was destroyed but the dining room just had smoke damage.”

No one was in the building at the time and no firefighters were injured during the blaze, Metzger said.

The building did not have a sprinkler system since it was built just under the square footage required to have one.

Fire crews from Lewisville and Highland Village assisted Flower Mound FD with the blaze.

“They had a small fire in the same area of the kitchen earlier this year, so investigators are focusing on an accidental cause related to the smokers,” said Metzger.
