Garden Ridge Boulevard Bridge demolition will slow traffic

As crews work to demolish the remaining portion of the existing Garden Ridge Boulevard bridge over I-35E, the following closures will be in place this weekend:

From 10 p.m. Friday, Jan. 29 until 8 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 30:

• Two lanes of northbound I-35E approaching Garden Ridge Boulevard will close at 10 p.m.
• At approximately midnight, all northbound mainlane traffic approaching Garden Ridge Boulevard will be detoured to the southbound mainlanes prior to Garden Ridge Boulevard and will merge back onto the northbound mainlanes north of Garden Ridge Boulevard. Click here to view a detour map.
• All lanes of southbound I-35E will be directed off of the interstate at the Garden Ridge Boulevard exit at 10 p.m. Southbound I-35E traffic will continue south on the frontage road to the next entrance ramp.

• At approximately 3:30 a.m. Saturday, all lanes of the southbound frontage roadwill close until 8 a.m. Southbound I-35E traffic will be detoured west to Garden Ridge Boulevard to FM 407 to the southbound I-35E frontage road. Click here for a detour map.

During this time period, north and southbound mainlane traffic will be stopped in increments of 15 minutes. Motorists should expect heavy delays.

From 10 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 30 until 9 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 31:

• Two lanes of northbound I-35E approaching Garden Ridge Boulevard will close at 10 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 30.

• All lanes of southbound I-35E approaching Garden Ridge Boulevard will close from 10 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 30 until 6 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 31. Traffic will be detoured to the southbound frontage road.
• Two lanes of southbound I-35E will close Sunday. Jan. 31 from 6 a.m. until 9 a.m.

During this time period, southbound I-35E mainlane and frontage road traffic will be stopped in increments of 15 minutes. Motorists should expect heavy delays.

This work is related to the 35Express project, an expansion of I-35E between U.S. Highway 380 in Denton County and I-635 in Dallas County. All closures are subject to weather conditions and may be postponed, if necessary.
