The Flower Mound Professional Firefighters Association and the Flower Mound Police Association have endorsed Mayor Tom Hayden and council members Steve Dixon and Bryan Webb.

A letter released by the two organizations on Friday states that the trio has improved morale and communication between town employees and encourages them to seek re-election.

Webb announced in December that he will run for a third term in Place 2 this May. Hayden and Place 4 Councilman Dixon have not announced if they are planning to run for re-election.

The filing period for the May 7 municipal election begins this Wednesday, January 20, and runs through Friday, February 19.

“This is one of the best recognitions one could give,” said Hayden. “Over time I’ve learned not everyone agrees with everything one does, but it is very meaningful when the employees of our town … say we support you. This was one of the best moments in the four years I’ve been mayor and I am grateful, thankful.”

The letter states:

“In 2012, the Flower Mound Professional Firefighters Association announced its organization had endorsed Tom Hayden and Steve Dixon for Town Council. Since that time, we have seen morale among all town employees reach all-time highs as their leadership has allowed for greater levels of communication between town employees and senior directors of the town, a continued insistence of the highest quality equipment available to allow public safety to do the most efficient execution of protecting the taxpayers of Flower Mound and a consistent competitive compensation package. Further, as employees of the town of Flower Mound, we feel strongly in the positive vision they have brought to Flower Mound, and we support their continued efforts to make Flower Mound one of the best places, if not the best place, to live and raise a family in the Metroplex. While the Fire Association has historically only supported candidates through internal endorsements, we feel so strongly in the positive direction the town is heading, we are taking the unusual step in to ask Mayor Tom Hayden, Councilman Steve Dixon and Councilman Bryan Webb to seek re-election. Furthermore, the Flower Mound Police Association has joined us in this support. Given the uncertainty that has transpired over the last year, it is important to have experienced, dependable leadership in place to ensure the town continues along the positive path we all desire. The gravity of public safety, budgeting and leadership issues facing the town has moved the associations to make this public announcement. Citing their proven record of supporting the police, fire departments and all town employees, the membership of the respective associations have affirmed their support for those they have grown to trust and value the contributions they have made toward the community. The Flower Mound Professional Firefighters Association and the Flower Mound Police Association encourages its members, all town employees who are eligible to vote, and all residents to support Mayor Tom Hayden, Councilman Steve Dixon and Councilman Bryan Webb in the May 2016 election. We continue to have confidence that their support for public safety will remain a priority. They have fulfilled all they have said they would accomplish when first elected, and we continue to support the positive culture they have fostered throughout the entire organization, resulting in a higher level of service for the residents we protect.”
