Eagle Scout project preserves local history

Argyle Boy Scout Troop 771 recently completed renovations to the town’s state historic site on Old Justin Rd.

The John Wells Campground site recognizes the area where religious and social gatherings for settlers from Argyle and surrounding Denton County communities took place during the late 1800’s and early 1900’s.

The work was completed by the troop as an Eagle Scout project for Cory Newsom of Argyle.

The project included replacement of the well cover, construction of a bench beside the well, installation of a gravel driveway, tree trimming and general cleanup of the area.

Over 25 scouts and adult leaders participated in the project, which required almost $500 in fundraising.

Keep Argyle Beautiful and Home Depot contributed to the project.

Troop 771 has produced four Eagle Scouts with many more candidates advancing through the ranks, according to Cory’s father, David Newsom.
