Police Investigate Vehicle Burglaries
Police are asking Lantana residents to lock their cars and secure their valuables after a recent rash of vehicle break-ins. At least nine incidents occurred in several Lantana neighborhoods between Jan. 24 and Feb. 1, according to the Denton County Sheriff’s Office. Police said that just about all of the vehicles were unlocked. In addition, a vacant home was stripped of all its appliances in the 9000 block of Charles St. in Azalea on Jan. 31. Anyone with information on the crimes is asked to call the Sheriff’s Department at 940-349-1600.

Crime Up in 2009
Calls for service to the Denton County Sheriff’s Department from Lantana increased 27 percent from 2008 to 2009. Last year, there were 1,397 police runs reported, including 24 burglaries, 29 thefts, and 15 cases of criminal mischief.

Ladies League Fashion Show
The Lantana ladies will walk down the runway at Belk Department Store in Flower Mound on Feb. 16 at 6:30pm. The event features drinks and appetizers, surprise gifts, door prizes and 20% discounts on most store items. RSVP by Feb. 11 to [email protected].

Community Garage Sale Date Announced
Lantana’s community-wide spring garage sale is scheduled for Saturday, April 24, from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The Lantana Community Association promotes the sale and provides signage. Residents who wish to participate should call the Lantana Visitor’s Center at 940-728-2000 to register.

Local Student Artists Celebrated
The creative works of Blanton Elementary School students will be featured at a children’s art show on Tuesday, Feb. 16, from 3:30 to 7:30pm in the school’s Cafetorium. Parents, families, and teachers are invited to attend the event, and the original paintings, which have been matted and framed gallery-style, will be available for sale at the show. There will also be performances by the Blanton Elementary Squire Choir.

Scouts Collect Food
Cub Scouts Pack 802 in Lantana conducted a successful food drive on Jan. 30 for Christian Community Action of Lewisville.  Despite temperatures in the 20’s and 30’s all day, the 49 scouts and 57 parents and siblings collected 2159.8 pounds of food, five packages of diapers and $100 in cash.

Ladies Plan Golf Fundraiser
The Lantana Ladies League is already in full swing organizing their third annual Charity Golf Classic. The event will be held on April 22 at the Lantana Golf Club, with all proceeds going to the Children’s Advocacy Center for Denton County. Sponsors and golfers are needed. Lantana has 2,217 occupied homes as of Jan. 31st, with an estimated population of 7,205.
