Football Playoffs Scoreboard – 3rd Round

Guyer 42, Arlington 21

The Wildcats advanced to the state quarterfinals on Saturday afternoon with a 42-21 victory over Arlington.

Eli Stowers scored a 37-yard touchdown run in the first quarter to give the Wildcats an early lead.

Stowers connected with Seth Meador on a 13-yard touchdown pass early in the second quarter and broke a 61-yard run to give Guyer a 21-0 halftime lead.

After Arlington scored at the start of the third, Stowers hit Meador on an 18-yard pass to make it 28-7 as well as a 22-yard pass to give the Wildcats a 28-point lead.

Kaedric Cobbs scored on a 37-yard run just over a minute into the fourth quarter to make it 42-7.
Arlington scored two touchdowns late, but could not mount any kind of a comeback.

Guyer (12-1) will play Amarillo Tascosa at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 7 at the Ford Center at the Star.

Tascosa 46, Marcus 14

The season came to an end for the Marauders on Saturday afternoon in the regional round, losing to Amarillo Tascosa by a score of 46-14.

Things got off to a good start for Marcus, as Garret Nussmeier connected with J. Michael Sturdivant on a 5-yard pass with 33 seconds remaining in the first quarter to make it 7-6 Tascosa.

Marcus scored again with 3:51 remaining in the fourth quarter, when Nussmeier hit Connor Vaughn on a 13-yard pass, but it was too late to start a rally.

Marcus (11-2) won the 6-6A district championship this season and defeated Keller Central and Lake Highlands in the bi-district and area rounds respectively.

Argyle 42, Brownwood 14

The Eagles had little trouble with Brownwood in the regional round this afternoon, winning 42-14 to advance to the state quarterfinals.

Cade Merka caught a 33-yard touchdown pass from Knox Scoggins to get things going for the Eagles, but Brownwood answered with a touchdown of its own and the game was tied 7-7 heading into the second quarter.

Luke Farris scored on a pair of 1-yard touchdown runs in the second quarter, and Argyle led 21-7 at halftime.

In the third quarter, Bo Hogeboom connected with Cole Kirkpatrick on a 13-yard pass to take a 28-7 lead into the fourth quarter and Farris made it 35-7 on a 3-yard run less than a minute into the fourth.

Brownwood scored again, but Argyle came right back on a 5-yard run from Farris to close the game out.

Farris rushed for four touchdowns and 210 yards in the game for the Eagles.

Argyle (13-0) will next face defending state champions Waco La Vega at Baylor’s McLane Stadium Friday night at 7 p.m. La Vega lost to Argyle, 49-35, earlier in the season.
