A threat made on social media prompted Liberty Christian School to cancel all classes and activities on Thursday.
According to an email to parents by Liberty, a Liberty student received a message on Snapchat Wednesday from a non-Liberty student that had a threat against a school with the name “Liberty.” The FBI, Homeland Security and Argyle Police Department investigated the threat for credibility, and LCS administration decided to use “extreme caution” and cancel all class and activities on Thursday.
Authorities have shared more information with LCS on Thursday that indicates the possible threat was related to an incident in another state, according to Liberty. Authorities are still trying to determine why the information was circulating locally.
“I applaud the reaction of the administration at Liberty Christian School, and I believe they took the appropriate action based on the information they had at the time,” said Argyle Police Chief Temple Cottle.
Liberty has been cleared to resume normal school activity for Friday. There will be additional security on campus for the next few days.
