The Flower Mound Seniors In Motion program recently received a prestigious national award, according to a town news release.

The SIM program was chosen for the Programs of Excellence Award from the National Council on Aging’s National Institute of Senior Centers for its Holi Party, the Hindu festival of spring, the news release said. Celebrated worldwide, this Hindu spring festival is known for people flooding the streets, dancing and ushering in the new season decorating one another with brightly colored water and powder.

During the SIM Holi Party, members enjoy traditional Indian cuisine followed by singing, dancing and celebration on the Senior Center patio, all the while dousing one another with colorful powder. The first SIM Holi Party was in 2016, and its popularity resulted in it becoming an annual event.

SIM was one of 16 programs honored by the national council with this annual recognition for innovative, creative, and replicable programs for older adults.
