Newspaper to host candidate forums

Early voting begins April 24 for the May 6 municipal and school board elections across southern Denton County and The Cross Timbers Gazette will host three candidate forums to help voters make informed choices.

Argyle

Argyle Town Council candidates will face off at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 13, at Argyle Town Hall, 308 Denton St E.

This year, the positions of Mayor and Town Council Places 2 and 4 are contested. Council members serve two-year terms.

The public is invited to submit questions for the candidates in advance to [email protected]. Questions should be worded in a general way so all candidates can respond to them.

Flower Mound

Flower Mound candidates will participate in a forum on Wednesday, April 19, at 7 p.m. at Flower Mound Town Hall, 2121 Cross Timbers Road. Lewisville ISD candidates are also invited and will have 3 minutes each to address the public at the beginning of the forum.

The event will be televised live and rebroadcast on FMTV, the town’s government access cable channel.

The May 6 election will feature town council races in Places 1, 3 and 5.

Submit questions for the candidates in advance to [email protected]. Questions should be worded in a general way so all candidates can respond to them.

Those attending the event will also have the opportunity to submit questions for the candidates.

Lewisville ISD

The Cross Timbers Gazette and The Lewisville Texan Journal are co-hosting a Lewisville ISD school board candidate forum on Thursday, April 20, at 6:30 p.m.

The forum will be held at LISD’s Bolin Administration Center, 1565 W. Main St. in Lewisville. The public is invited to attend.

Video of the forum will be posted online on both the Cross Timbers Gazette and Lewisville Texan Journal websites.

The seven-member Board of Trustees has two seats open on the May ballot, with eight candidates in the running.

Trustees serve three-year terms without pay, and meet monthly to discuss and vote on issues of district strategy, policy and budget.

To suggest questions for the candidates, you may email [email protected].

Longtime Flower Mound resident and newspaper columnist Bob Weir will moderate all three candidate forums.
