One of the greatest perks that we’ve found the past three years as we’ve been doing Foodie Friday is getting to see some of the Foodie Friday restaurant owners growing, expanding and trying new things. And that’s what makes this week’s post so special to us – we got to visit with our old friends, Lynne and David Cerda, at their new Flower Mound restaurant, Urbano Enchilada & Taco Bar, to celebrate their latest adventure!
We first met David and Lynne when we visited their previous restaurant, Mi Sueno Tex Mex in the Bartonville Town Center. And we fell in love with their award-winning menu full of delicious Tex-Mex choices.
After deciding they wanted to bring their love of Mexican food to a different customer-base in the area, David and Lynne found the available spot in the Pines of Flower Mound on the corner of FM 3040 and Gerault Rd to open up their brand new restaurant concept, Urbano, which serves up an incredible selection of tacos and enchiladas.
The whole restaurant has an industrial, urban vibe which we love. David and Lynne really made use of some cool ideas like the furniture they built in the waiting area made out of wood pallets and the planters Lynne made using the old duct work from the roof.
If you were a fan of the margaritas at Mi Sueno – have no fear! Urbano has an incredible selection of hand-crafted margaritas as well with some unique flavor combinations like what you find in their Spicy ‘Rita (jalapeno-infused tequila with blood orange liqueur).
Before we even get to the tacos and enchiladas, however, we MUST talk about their Mexican Street Corn. Lynne told us they come close to selling out of their street corn on a daily basis, and after having some we can totally understand why! You can order it on the cob or cut, and it’s smothered in a fantastic combination of Urbano Street Sauce, queso fresco, cilantro and a dusting of cayenne pepper. Just look at it…
When it comes to their tacos, you can order them truly street-style with a corn tortilla or you can opt for a flour tortilla as well. And you can choose from any number of taco fillings and flavors including: carnitas with cilantro, onions, lime and queso fresco; brisket with pickled onions, jalapenos, queso fresco, cilantro and guacamole; spicy chicken with red chile sauce, jack cheese, pico de gallo and sour cream; and baja fish with beer battered or grilled white fish topped with a cabbage slaw, cilantro and special cream sauce.
And they have a great selection of enchilada options as well! We tried their special Aguacate Enchiladas which come filled with marinated fajita chicken, grilled onions and peppers, jack cheese, apple-smoked bacon and topped with a creamy avocado sauce. Does that sound delicious or what?
We’re so happy that Urbano is finally open here in Flower Mound and that we get to see David and Lynne again! They are extremely grateful for the warm reception they’ve already enjoyed and look forward to bringing their love and passion for their food and their customers to a new crowd.
So, go sit out on their beautiful patio this weekend and try out one of their margaritas and some street corn to celebrate surviving the first week of school!
Have a great one, Foodies!
