Yong-Ha Jung, 16, of Flower Mound will travel to San Antonio in April to compete as a National Finalist in the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) Senior Performance Competition.

Jung, the son of Jinsuk and Myungok Jung, earned the opportunity after winning the Senior Strings Division of the MTNA Senior Performance.

A sophomore at Flower Mound High School, Jung has been studying viola for six years and is currently a student of Ronald Houston.

Just three years after beginning his lessons, Jung started to gain recognition and won numerous awards, including 2nd place in the 2014 Vernell Gregg Young Artists Competition.

In addition to being the state and region representative of the 2015 MTNA Competition in “Senior Strings Performance”, Jung was also a semi-finalist in the 2014 Juanita Miller Concerto Competition.

Jung recently ranked 1st in the Region XXIV Symphony Orchestra, and continued on to rank 4th in the 2016 TMEA All-State Symphony Orchestra.

He is currently the principal violist of the Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra. Along with his strong passion for music, Jung is a well-rounded student, being one of the top ranked students in his class.

The MTNA Senior Strings Competition will take place on Sunday, April 2nd , during the MTNA National Conference. The national winner of the competition receives a cash prize and will perform in a Winners Concert during the conference.
