With boxes at 26 locations, the annual Santa Cops toy drive is ready for donations to help Flower Mound children in need.
The program, a combined effort by the Flower Mound Police Department and the Flower Mound Citizen’s Police Academy Alumni Association, collects donations and gifts to distribute them for Christmas.
“It’s a great program,” said Police Chief Andy Kancel at a recent town council meeting. “The community comes together and does a great job to make sure everyone has a Merry Christmas.”
In its eighth year, Santa Cops has served 280 families and more than 800 children, said Doug Graves, one of the organizers behind the event.
Graves said the program continues to grow each year. The program is designed for those who want to make the holidays brighter for children ages toddler to 18 as well as provide an opportunity for positive interaction between Flower Mound police and the children.
Officers select the toys for the recipients and help deliver them.
“This is all about officers doing Santa Cops,” Graves said.
Anyone wishing to make a donation of toys or monies should contact the Santa Cops Program at 972-874-3339 or 972-874-3357. Residents can also drop off new, unwrapped, non-violent toys at any time during the year at the Flower Mound Police Department.
The Santa Cops Toy Drive will run through Dec. 12.
