Ladies League parties for Komen

The Lantana Ladies League will host their second annual Black and Bling event on Sept. 17 with a goal this year of raising $5,000 for a worthy cause.

League President Reanna Wallace said that the fundraising event was started last year to help support a local organization that has worked hard to raise awareness and funding for breast cancer research.

“We team up with the Lantana Women’s Golf Association, and all of our proceeds go to the Lantana Women’s Golf Association’s Rally for the Cure,” Wallace said. “The Rally for the Cure event is basically a huge golf tournament they host each year to raise money for the research and development portion of the Susan G. Komen Foundation.”

The event raised more than $2,800 last year for Breast cancer research.

Tickets for general admission to the event are $15 and can be purchased by visiting the organization’s Facebook page at Lantana.Ladies.League or purchased at the door.

The Black and Bling event is open to the general public and will feature a silent auction, wine pull, a photo booth and other entertainment.

“The wine pull is a new feature this year,” Wallace said. “You basically buy a ticket for a bag of wine for $20, and you grab a bag of wine that could valued at $20 and up to $100.”

Heavy hors d’oeuvres will be served, drinks will be available for purchase and of course, the attire is Black and Bling.

Wallace said she has been affected by breast cancer through her husband’s grandmother, who passed away from the disease, and his aunt, who is a breast cancer survivor.

The Lantana Ladies League president said she would like to see a couple of things come from the Black and Bling event.

“I just want people to have fun, but also have the opportunity to give back to an organization and charity that we are passionate about,” Wallace said. “It’s going to be mostly women, but it is not just women that have been affected by the disease. Men have been affected too through the women in their lives. Our goal is to continue to grow each year and do our part to help.”
