Best gymnasts live up to their name

The Best Gymnastics Level 5 Girls Team in Flower Mound recently competed at the Level 5-8 TAAF Texas State Championships in Allen and walked away from the meet with 13 championship titles and a total of 24 individual and team medals.

The girls took the silver medal in the large team competition, behind the first place team by only .125.

Alexa Bean won the All-Around competition in Division 1C and the silver medal on balance beam. Savannah Bickhaus also won the All-Around competition in Division 3A.

Competing in Division 1A, the toughest division in the competition, Sonia Bhattacharya won the silver medal on vault and Gabriela Capdevila won 4th place on balance beam and 8th place on vault.

In Division 1B, Kaitlyn Kerns earned the gold medal on both floor and balance beam and a silver medal in the All-Around. Also in the same division, Morgan Russell walked away with a 7th place finish on balance beam and All-Around and an 8th place finish on bars and floor.

In Division 1C, Sarina Bhattacharya won the gold medal on vault, a bronze medal on balance beam, and finished 2nd place in the All-Around, .075 behind her teammate, Alexa.

In Division 2B, Stephanie Laseter won two gold medals, one on bars and one on balance beam, while finishing 5th in the All-Around.

In Division 2C, Kendall Bailey won the gold medal on floor and balance beam and 8th in the All-Around and Emily Pfeifer won a gold medal on bars with a session high score of 9.8. Emily also won a bronze medal on vault and in the All-Around.

In Division 3C, Halle Holden tied for 1st place on vault, and also won the gold on balance beam, and added to her medals with a silver on floor.

Aarthi Lokram competed in the Level 4 State meet the weekend before the event and won the state vaulting title with a 9.85 in Division 1A. Adding in Aarthi’s win, the Best Gymnastics Level 4/5 team won a total of 14 state championships for the 2012 season.
