Eagles bring home the gold

The Argyle Eagles have won their first ever boys basketball state championship after knocking off Corpus Christi Miller 44-33 in the Class 3A state final game Saturday at the University of Texas at Austin.

Clarke Overlander led the way for the Eagles with 14 points and 10 rebounds, while Connor York added 13 of his own and Andrew Resch grabbed 13 boards.

Zach Dickerson, Chad Bossow, Resch, Spencer McCloud and Carson Cline combined for 17 points in the contest.

Argyle finished the season with a record of 31-8, and Overlander was named the championship game’s MVP.

Argyle made it to the title game once before, in 2004, with an overtime loss to Shallowater.

An award celebration for the team and coaching staff was held in the main gym of the high school Saturday night.
