Elementary Excitement

Heritage Elementary School in Highland Village took the top spot and won $3,000 in the inaugural “It’s Elementary” competition organized by The Shops at Highland Village.

Local elementary schools competed for points by shopping, eating and turning in their receipts, or by ‘liking’ The Shops at Highland Village Facebook page.

Heritage Principal Toby Maxson said the money will be used to create “The Hawks Nest,” which will be a learning lounge complete with laptops, kindles or nooks and iPads. The Hawks Nest will be available for all teachers and students to use.

Second-place Blanton Elementary in Lantana was awarded $2,000. Third- through fifth-place winners Flower Mound Elementary, McAuliffe Elementary and Liberty Elementary each received $1,000. Schools that came in fifth through 10th place, which included Highland Village Elementary, Prairie Trail Elementary, Wellington Elementary, Valley Ridge Elementary and Vickery Elementary respectively, each earned $500.

Representatives from each school attended the awards ceremony at the center on Nov. 8th to claim oversized checks that will benefit nearly 6,500 students.
