Fan & Food Drive Will Provide Heat Relief
Blue Bell Creameries, Christian Community Action and 94.9 KLTY Radio are teaming up to help those less fortunate stay cool this sizzling summer. Everyone who brings a box fan or non-perishable food to Blue Bell at 1202 North Stemmons Freeway in Lewisville on August 10 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. will receive a free ice cream treat and can take a tour of the Blue Bell cold storage distribution center, including a brief stop in the giant freezer that is 20 degrees below zero, even when it’s 107 degrees outside!

Peek Behind the Badge
The Flower Mound Police Department will offer their popular Citizen’s Police Academy this fall for town residents with a free, 11-week course that will explore the inner workings of the police department, such as recruitment, training, narcotics, firearms, K-9, School Resource Officer, SWAT Team, criminal investigation, traffic patrol, and crime scene analysis. Classes will meet beginning Sept. 1. The deadline to register is August 15. Applications are available online at www.flower-mound.com, via email at [email protected], or at the Police Department. Volunteer Naturalists Needed
The Elm Fork Chapter of the Texas Master Naturalist program will be holding a roundup for volunteers interested in helping to conserve our natural resources on August 18 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Texas AgriLIFE Extension training room in the Denton County Government Center, 306 N. Loop 288, Denton. The program develops a corps of well-informed citizen volunteers who educate their communities about the management of natural resources. Classes will be held from September through November and volunteers will receive training from area educators and specialists. www.txmn.org

Unmentionables Wanted To Help Less Fortunate
The non-profit Love Thy Neighbor organization is holding an underwear drive for the Lewisville Salvation Army.  Those that would like to donate new underwear can stop by the Salvation Army Lewisville Service Center, 207 Elm Street, Lewisville, TX 75067. Donation receipts are available.
