The Lewisville ISD Board of Trustees unanimously voted during a special public meeting Tuesday to hire Dr. Stephen Waddell for the Lewisville ISD superintendent position.
Dr. Waddell served as superintendent for Birdville ISD since 2002. Prior to his time in Birdville, he served as superintendent for Tuloso-Midway ISD and Sunray ISD.
Waddell has 15 years experience as a superintendent and 30 years in education. He began his career as a teacher and has also served as a principal and high school counselor.
Waddell succeeds Dr. Jerry Roy, who recently retired after serving the district for nine years.
“Dr. Waddell’s experience, skills and vision clearly match the desired qualities expressed by our community,” said LISD Board President Carol Kyer.
“He is highly regarded in the education community and has a proven track record of success. His passion for students and knowledge of the challenges facing public education make him an exceptional candidate for Lewisville ISD.”
Dr. Waddell earned his bachelor’s degree from North Texas State University, his master’s degree from Stephen F. Austin State University and his doctorate degree from the University of North Texas. He is a proud father of two.
Dr. Waddell’s start date is March 1.
