New hospital accepts layette gifts

On May 4th, representatives from the Flower Mound 3rd Ward Relief Society of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints delivered 40 layettes and wraps, six crocheted hats, and four scrapbooks to the new Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in Flower Mound. The Relief Society is the women’s organization of the LDS Church.

Rick Carter, hospital president, Tom Howard, CFO, Shannon Lauby, Director of Women and Children Services, and Angela Kreig, Director of Patient Support Services, were in attendance to receive this gift of service.

Prior to the hospital opening, the LDS women met with Kreig to see how they could serve and welcome the new hospital.  One of the greatest needs for the new Flower Mound hospital included layettes and small wraps for infants who die as the result of premature birth or miscarriage.

At this time of grief and loss, nurses can place the babies in a beautiful layette or small wrap for the parents to hold.  Later the layettes can go home with the parents.  The hospital’s need for layettes was a perfect match for the creative abilities of the LDS women who were eager to cut, sew, or crochet. Besides being of service to the new hospital, the LDS women hope to provide some comfort to families suffering from the loss of a child.

The Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Flower Mound opened its doors on April 30th, and is a full service hospital that has the distinction of being a “green” hospital.

The hospital is located at 4400 Long Prairie Road, Flower Mound, TX 75028.
