Lantana man dies after finishing race

A 32-year-old Lantana man died Sunday following a 13.1-mile run in the Rock ‘n’ Roll Half Marathon held in Dallas.

According to media reports, Mark Austry had just crossed the finish line when he collapsed. He was immediately treated by doctors and paramedics then transported to a local hospital. He was pronounced dead at 12:19 p.m.

Austry leaves behind his wife, Mariana Alvarez Austry, and daughters Isabella and Anna.

A native of Fort Worth, Austry played baseball at Texas Tech University between 1998 and 2000 after transferring from Coastal Carolina.

“On behalf of Texas Tech University and all of Red Raider nation, we extend our deepest sympathies to the Austry family. Mark was a great person and will be sorely missed,” said Texas Tech Director of Athletics, Gerald Myers.

A memorial fund was established for the family on Monday.  Donations can be sent to:
