Area Candidates Throw Hats into Ring

A couple of candidates have already signaled their intention to run for office this May.

In Highland Village, Deputy Mayor Pro Tem Dr. Scott McDearmont has announced his intention to succeed Mayor Dianne Costa, who cannot run again due to term limits.

McDearmont, a local surgeon, has lived in Highland Village with his family since 2002.

“The relationships I have established during the past four years on council coupled with my long term residency in the area will benefit the city and citizens alike,” said McDearmont.

“I offer Highland Village citizens leadership experience, thorough knowledge of ongoing issues, and a long history of community service.  I will be dedicated, open-minded, and focused on constructive solutions that bring consensus and progress.  I am committed to a help Highland Village continue to strive to offer the best services and quality of life to all citizens and will promote a balanced and prudent vision for our city.”

Flower Mound Mayor Jody Smith recently announced that she will seek a fourth term in office.

A Flower Mound resident since 1984, Smith was first elected Mayor in May of 2004. She represents Flower Mound as the voting member of the North Central Texas Council of Governments and is currently serving on the North Texas Super Bowl XLV Host Committee’s Council of Mayors.

Smith and her husband, Stephen, have been married for 29 years, and have three children, Andrew 21, David 17, and Christopher 15. The Smith’s are owners of CornerStone Staffing, established in 1991.

Early voting begins April 26 and runs until May 4.  Election Day is May 8.
