Students collect funds for Sandy relief

Liberty Elementary fifth-grader Samantha Surdek and classmates Miranda Smith, Kyleigh Celone and Grace Archer teamed up to help victims of Hurricane Sandy.

Surdek took it upon herself to write Liberty Principal Tim Greenwell a note to inquire about what could be done to help.

After a brief meeting with Greenwell, she researched the American Red Cross, advertised and recruited friends to assist in collecting donations.

The initiative was a one-morning “flash drive” for the Flower Mound community to bring in cash donations. In all, $650 was collected and will be forwarded to the American Red Cross with a specific instruction to aid victims of Hurricane Sandy.
