CCA breaks ground on collection center, names new president

On Thursday, March 29, Lewisville-based Christian Community Action brought two exciting announcements to an empty field in Flower Mound.

The non-profit organization hosted a groundbreaking ceremony for their new donation center and announced a new president.

The donation center site plan, which was approved by Flower Mound’s Planning & Zoning Commission in July 2011, calls for a 41,000-square-foot facility featuring a two-lane covered area connected to more than 25,000 square feet of warehouse space at 900 Lakeside Parkway in south Flower Mound.

Construction begins in April and the facility is expected to open in early 2013.

Distinguished guests at the groundbreaking included Senator Jane Nelson, members of CCA’s Board of Directors, including President Nick Panza, and Co-Chairs of the Capital Campaign, Tom and Bridget Black.  All three of CCA’s past presidents were on hand – CCA Founder, Tom Duffy, as well as Scott Orr and current Interim President, Ed Johnson.  They were joined by a new face to CCA – Ron Batts.

Nick Panza introduced Batts as CCA’s new President and CEO.  He officially joins the CCA Team on April 9.

Batts comes to CCA from Charming Charlie’s where he served as Senior Vice President of Stores.  Under his watch, the women’s accessory chain grew from 22 to 200 locations nationwide.

Batts has also been involved in philanthropic organizations throughout his career.  He is on the Board of First Baptist Academy, Dallas Life Foundation and serves as Chairman of the Board for Operation Care Dallas.

Ed Johnson will be spending time with Batts as he transitions into his new role.  Johnson, a seasoned business leader and long-time advisor of CCA, stepped in for a second time into the interim position.  He previously served for 2½ years as Interim President and CEO.  He has served as President of CCA’s Board of Directors as well as Chairman of CCA’s Advisory Board.
