H-E-B to offer $2,000 scholarships for Texas high school seniors

H-E-B teamed up with the University Interscholastic League and Dave Campbell’s Texas Sports to award 15 high school seniors $2,000 scholarships and applications opened on Monday.

The scholarships will be awarded to seniors that participate in UIL competitions. It’s the eight time H-E-B has offered the Sports in Action scholarship program.

“On behalf of H-E-B, we are excited to again offer this opportunity to Texas students and appreciate the generous support of our sponsor,” said H-E-B in a statement. “The selection committee looks forward to reviewing applications.”

Five students will be chosen that participate in athletics, five who compete in music and five that compete in academic events.

According to the website, the Sports in Action scholarships aim to recognize students and their commitment to community service and their involvement in their communities.

Requirements for applicants include:

  • Must be a current Texas high school senior graduating in 2026
  • Must have a minimum GPA of 3.3
  • Must have participated in a UIL competition as a high school student and have been active in community service programs or events

Students can apply online and must list their current GPA, the number of community service hours earned in the last 12 months with community service verification letters to document the hours submitted and a letter of recommendation.

Previously, two southern Denton County students have earned the scholarship.

In 2024, Jessica Itzel Narvaez of Flower Mound High School earned the scholarship for athletics.

In 2020, Brandon Boeth of Byron Nelson High School earned the scholarship for athletics and academics.
