Early voting for Flower Mound mayoral runoff starts Monday

Cathy Strathmann and Steve Dixon are headed to a runoff election in June.

Flower Mound residents can head back to the polls starting this week to settle some unfinished business.

No one candidate in the four-way race for mayor this May received more 50-percent of the vote. As a result, the top two vote-getters, Steve Dixon and Cathy Strathmann, are in a runoff election.

Dixon (with 2,131 votes) and Strathmann (with 2,121 votes) deadlocked, each one with 43-percent of the vote. With only 10 votes separating the two top candidates, it proves, once again, that every vote counts in Flower Mound elections.

The four mayoral candidates, in alphabetical order, were Dixon, former two-time council member Paul Stone, newcomer Bill Robinson– who withdrew– and Cathy Strathmann, who ran unsuccessfully for council the past two years.

The last mayoral runoff in Flower Mound was in 1992, when Larry Lipscomb unseated Gary Acker. The last runoff election was in 2004, between council members Laurie Long and Lori DeLuca.

A mayoral candidate forum sponsored by The Cross Timbers Gazette was held on May 31 (view it here). The forum will also be replayed on Flower Mound TV (FMTV). FMTV is broadcast on Grande Cable channel 12, Time Warner Cable channel 16, and Frontier channel 42.

Early voting begins Monday, June 4 and Election Day is Saturday, June 16. The runoff election is open to all registered voters, regardless of whether they voted in the May 5 general election.
