Flower Mound, Highland Village among top 10 safest cities in Texas, study says

A new study ranked Flower Mound and Highland Village in the top 10 safest cities in Texas.

SafeWise, a company that provides home security and safety advice, evaluated the most recent FBI Crime Report statistics from 2015 for all Texas cities and towns with more than 10,000 residents that submitted a complete crime to report to the FBI.

Flower Mound moved up from No. 12 last year to No. 7, Highland Village fell from No. 4 last year to No. 10 and Corinth came in at No. 14.

The rankings factor in violent crimes and property crimes per 1,000 people.

Trophy Club ranked No. 1 and Colleyville was No. 2, switching spots from last year’s list. Other DFW-area cities in the top 20 include No. 3 Murphy, No. 4 Little Elm, No. 8 Keller, No. 9 Wylie, No. 12 Prosper, No. 16 Allen, No. 18 University Park and No. 20 Sachse.

SafeWise also noted a study by the Brennan Center for Justice at New York University of Law that the crime rate in Texas’ five largest cities dropped by an average of 6.5 percent from 2014 to 2015.
