Foodie Friday: Your New Favorite Brunch/Lunch/Dinner Spot

3-20 foodie friday_black walnut_foodThere’s a reason the new Black Walnut Cafe in Flower Mound has been fully packed ever since its opening on February 19th and that reason is because everything Black Walnut Cafe serves is absolutely delicious!

Black Walnut Cafe was established in 2002 as a contemporary American fast casual restaurant with something on the menu to appeal to everyone. Of their more than 100 menu items, more than 90% of them are made from scratch in the restaurant using only the highest quality of ingredients.

The Flower Mound location located off FM 2499 at Firewheel is their 3rd in the DFW area and has been accommodating large lunch and dinner crowds since the day they opened! It’s almost hard to find a parking spot!

As we spoke with General Manager, Randy Garran, he just expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome they’ve received since opening and invited everyone to come in and enjoy their warm ambiance and comforting selection of food.

Speaking of the food… are you curious to know what we ordered?

We started out with some of their INCREDIBLE Spinach & Artichoke Dip which is incredibly creamy with spinach, artichokes, cream cheese, mozzarella, Parmesan, red onions and garlic and comes served with a basket full of tortilla chips.

As some of you may know, my daughter is getting married later this year, so I’m DEFINITELY watching what I eat so I look good in a suit in the pictures. That being said, I ordered their Doc’s Krazy Turkey Burger which is a seasoned turkey patty, Swiss, sauteed mushrooms, tomato, avocado, spinach and pesto mayonnaise served on a wheat bun with a side of potato fries. And this was by far the BEST turkey burger I’ve ever had. Not to mention the sweet potato fries which were also amazing. I don’t even think I talked to anyone at the table for 10 minutes because I was enjoying my food too much.

We also tried out their Turkey Croissant Club with Cajun turkey, Swiss, peppered bacon, lettuce, tomatoes and pesto mayonnaise served on a hand crafted croissant and with a side of fruit as well as their French Dip sandwich topped with provolone, sauteed onions, mushrooms and asiago dressing.

Seriously, I had heard this place was good from other people who had tried it, but it far exceeded the expectations I had for it. Everything was so good and we all left completely satisfied.

But wait… you didn’t think we’d leave without trying some sort of dessert did you? Black Walnut Cafe offers several great dessert options including gelato made from another one of their restaurants located in Allen as well as a variety of cakes, pies, cookies and more from local bakeries.

We decided to try out some Hummingbird Cake that they had the day I went and it was totally life-changing. I’ve had Hummingbird Cake before, but this literally takes the cake (pardon the pun). The cream cheese frosting added a perfect creamy sweetness to the spice cake. We had no problem devouring that large piece of cake.

I’m so excited that Flower Mound was chosen as the third DFW location for Black Walnut Cafe! I’m sure that the Jay Marks Team will be having several more breakfast and lunch meetings here. And I’m seeing another one of those turkey burgers in my near future.

If you haven’t tried this place out yet, it’s worth fighting the crowd for so I’d definitely recommend you head out this weekend! They open at 7:00am on the weekends with breakfast – and then head back later in the day to try out their lunch and dinner menu. No, seriously.

Hope this recommendation helps your rainy weekend feel a little more cheery! Stay safe and eat well, Foodies!
