Six mosquito traps show West Nile virus in Highland Village

Six mosquito traps in Highland Village showed positive signs of West Nile virus, prompting officials to schedule spraying in several neighborhoods beginning at 10 p.m. today through 5 a.m. Saturday and again Saturday night and Sunday morning.

Areas to be sprayed include the northwest section of Highland Village from the city’s western border east to Creek Haven Drive, north to Kimberlee Lane and south to Southwood Drive.

The second area to be sprayed is the east section of Highland Village south and east of Highland Village Road to FM 407, east to Doubletree Drive, Willow Way and Sellmeyer Lane including Park Lane.

The third area to be sprayed is the area north of FM 407, west to Chinn Chapel Road, north to the Rosedale and Hillside and east to Briarhill Boulevard.

Highland Village staff will also fog culvert pipes, drainage swales and public wooded areas in the affected neighborhoods.

Denton County Health Department will continue spraying tonight and Saturday in Lantana after a mosquito sample was found positive for the West Nile virus.

Ground spraying will occur in the northern end of Lantana, which falls east of the Argyle and Bartonville town limits, and west of Copper Canyon town limits.

So far this year, 34 mosquito samples have been detected with the virus including 28 in Highland Village, two in Flower Mound and one each in Carrollton, Denton, Lantana and Lewisville.
