Guyer defeats Aledo in second round

In a battle of two of the state’s biggest 4A football powerhouses this afternoon, Denton Guyer emerged victorious in its area round match up with Aledo, defeating the Bearcats 42-30 at Northwest ISD Stadium.

The Wildcats jumped out to a 21-0 first quarter lead on runs from Jerrod Heard and Richard Whitaker, and a 70-yard reception to Josh Harris from Heard.

Heard would add two more touchdown runs in the third quarter, and Whitaker would score again on a touchdown run in the fourth to give Guyer the victory.

Heard passed for 143 yards in the game and rushed for 108 yards in the game, and accounted for four of the team’s six touchdowns in the game.

DJ Breelove rushed for 169 yards in the contest for the Wildcats.

Guyer will square off with Amarillo in a Class 4A Division I Region I Quarterfinal at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, at Grande Communications Stadium in Midland.

The Wildcats were the Class 5A state runners-up in 2010.
