Flower Mound officially opened the Fort Wildflower community-built playground Saturday during a special ceremony.
The playground is located in the new Heritage Park at the northwest corner of Garden Ridge Boulevard and Spinks Road.
Hundreds of volunteers and town staff members came together for a week in September to build Fort Wildflower.
Playground components include a climbing forest, tee pee, rock wall, playhouse, tree house, flower chair, and lily pad hops along with numerous slides, swings, and bridges.
Fort Wildflower also includes features for autistic and handicapped children, a separate tot area and an area for older kids.
The playground was constructed with recycled plastic and wood fiber material that has a life expectancy of approximately 25 years.
Fort Wildflower’s design was created with the help of Flower Mound elementary students, who contributed more than 500 ideas to ensure Fort Wildflower is a one-of-a-kind project.
Donations and sponsorships from local businesses and the public raised $107,000 for the project.
