Copper thief hits local businesses

Three Flower Mound businesses were hit by a copper thief over the past weekend.

Police said that nearly $3,000 worth of copper pipe, water meters, irrigation valves and associated equipment was taken from two businesses in the 4000 block of FM 407 and one business at FM 2499 at Dixon Lane.

The staff of Prototype:IT arrived at their office on FM 2499 Monday morning to find that there was no water service in the building.

Upon further investigation by the town, it was determined that a water backflow device next to their building was missing.

Prototype:IT owner Doug Oppenheimer told police that the thief took the time to shut off the water before removing the device.

The company’s security cameras caught images of the suspect’s truck, which appears to be a white Ford pickup.

All cases are under investigation and no arrests have been made.
