Neighborly heroes

Two Double Oak residents were presented with a life saving award at Monday night’s Double Oak Town Council meeting after they rescued a neighbor involved in a lawn mower accident.

On July 1, Curtis Goss was mowing his yard on Double Oaks Drive when his riding mower flipped over, pinning him in a water-filled ditch.

A neighbor, Chuck Strawser, witnessed the accident and quickly jumped into the ditch and was able to elevate Goss’s head above water.

Another neighbor, Roger Simpson, saw Strawser jump into the water and ran over to assist him. The men stayed with Goss until authorities arrived from the Double Oak Volunteer Fire Department and Double Oak Police Department.

“Without their efforts and quick actions, the resident would have likely drowned. We are extremely lucky to have neighbors like Chuck and Roger,” said Double Oak Mayor Tom Pidcock.
