Miniature horse makes big impression

Midnite, a 4-year-old miniature horse with a prosthetic leg, was a special guest Wednesday at Adult Day Stay in Lewisville.

Patrons of the facility for adults who are chronically ill or handicapped got to meet the famous horse and learn about his incredible story.

A camera crew from Animal Planet was also on hand for the event.  The segment is expected to air this fall.

The visit was courtesy of Argyle-based Ranch Hand Rescue, a farm animal sanctuary and rescue group headed up by Bob Williams that operates out of the American Pet Spa & Resort on Hwy 377.

Williams adopted Midnite last fall after the Humane Society of North Texas took him away from a negligent owner.

“He was 175 pounds underweight, missing a hoof and coffin bone and he was so weak he couldn’t get up,” said Williams.

Since Midnite’s missing hoof was replaced with a $14,000 artificial limb, the horse has become an international celebrity, appearing on TV and all over the Internet.

Now, Midnite travels around North Texas to visit and inspire people of all ages who face difficulties.
