Church choir sings for suppers

The First Baptist Church of Lewisville Voices of Praise Student Choir will be hitting the street once again on Saturday, January 15, when they open for the Texas Tornado Hockey Club’s game against the Fresno Monsters benefiting local non-profit Christian Community Action (CCA).

It is the first time the group has performed outside the church walls since having what many have called a “God-ordained” appointment last summer with Lenny Kravitz.

During their New Orleans outdoor concert the Grammy Award-winning artist happened to be nearby, and upon hearing his song Fly Away, gave the 100 voice choir and band the surprise of their lives when he stopped by for an impromptu performance (see the video at www.fbclewisville.org/vop).

“The Voice of Praise high school choir from First Baptist Lewisville is pleased to be part of the upcoming partnership with CCA and the Texas Tornado Hockey Club,” said Worship Pastor Kelvin Reed.

“Our students are known for singing, serving and smiling!  Just this past Tuesday evening, six of our students spent the evening working at CCA offering a lending hand. This performance will certainly be an exciting night as our students entertain the crowds that come out to support the Texas Tornado.”

After hearing about the Voices of Praise encounter with Kravitz, Lawrence Beck of the Texas Tornado was pleased to host the choir that made big news last summer and coordinate this special family night with CCA.

“We do a lot of reading programs in schools and motivational assemblies, taking advantage of the fact that young kids look up to our hockey players, we try to channel that influence to encourage reading, education, and things like that.  We like to be involved in the community and this is another great way to achieve that,” said Beck.

As a part of the evening’s activities, the Voices of Praise will also be a part of launching CCA’s first ever Feed a Family Rewards Card.  For a purchase of $25.20, one month’s food supply will be made available to a family.  In return, those purchasing the card will receive six bonus promotions at three of the four reSale by CCA retail centers.  The one-time offers include 50% off a purchase up to $10, buy one item get one free up to $10, one free holiday item up to $10, one free item of clothing up to $10, one free lamp with furniture purchase, and one free home décor item up to $10.

“We always have exciting promotions for our treasure-hunting shoppers,” said CCA President Scott Orr.  “When the community shops our resale stores and participates in programs like Feed The Family, it helps them understand the good they’re doing by allowing us to change the lives of every hurting person we serve.”

Recently, reSale by CCA conducted a reSale raVes contest for both the best treasure find in one of the CCA resale centers, and the best resale re-do, awarding fabulous prizes to the winners, including a trip to Mexico, an iPad, and a $100 Gift Card to the resale locations.  The winners were Lisa Kendall, Cathy Phifer, and Angela Peratta. Fans can keep up with upcoming promotions like these and the Feed a Family Rewards Card on the reSale by CCA fan page (facebook.com/reSalebyCCA).

So whether or not Lenny shows up this time, the Voices of Praise choir is the first to volunteer to promote the CCA message and mission as part of the launch of the Feed the Family Rewards Card.  Their hope is that hearts will be inspired by the music they sing and the example they are living while serving others in need with a message that lasts a lifetime.
