New section of FM 2499 to open in October

Denton County Commissioner Bobbie Mitchell announced last week that Section 4 of FM 2499 in Highland Village is nearing completion and will open to the public well ahead of schedule on Saturday, October 30, 2010.

Section 4 includes a bridge over the far western portion of Lake Lewisville that will connect FM 2499 in Highland Village with FM 2181 in Corinth. The project was originally expected to be completed in April 2011.

Commissioner Mitchell also announced that a ribbon-cutting ceremony is being planned in conjunction with the City of Highland Village and County Commissioner Hugh Coleman to be held the morning of October 30th, prior to the official opening of the road.

Meanwhile, a new section of FM 2499 from Highland Shores Boulevard to Orchid Hill Lane opened to traffic last week.

Since the section is still an active construction zone, the right lane in both directions is closed to traffic and some detours during working hours are expected, Highland Village officials said.

A four-way stop was installed at the intersection of FM 2499 and Highland Shores Boulevard and will be in effect until the construction of the traffic signal is completed, which is expected to take two months.
