Studio B Performing Arts Center in Highland Village is getting ready to present four consecutive weekends of theater performances including Cinderella: A Fantasy, Big – The Musical, and Little Shop of Horrors.
The classic tale of Cinderella, but with a twist, runs July 30 to August 2. Studio B will present Cinderella: A Fantasy directed by Tayloir Pace. The Fairy Godmother needs help from the audience because she is out of practice and not all of her magic is working properly. When the Prince comes along and meets Cinderella at the ball, you know the rest—they live happily ever after. This is a fun twist to an old classic where emphasis is placed on audience participation. Show times are July 30 at 7:30, July 31 at 7:30, August 1 at 2:30, and August 2 at 10:30. Tickets for Cinderella are $10.
If you are a fan of the 80’s, then you can’t miss Studio B’s presentation of Big – The Musical August 6-15. This Broadway musical is based on the 80’s movie starring Tom Hanks. Young Josh Baskins (played by Nico Adame) wishes to be “big” and wakes up to find that he is now literally big. The older version of Josh Baskin is played by Kole Franklin. Big – The Musical is under the direction of Kevin Westbrook and musical direction of Byron Holder. Show times are August 6, 7, 13 and 14 at 7:30 and August 8 and 15th at 2:30. Ticket prices are $18 for adults, $15 for seniors and students and $12 for kids 10 and under.
The last show of the summer season is Little Shop of Horrors, directed by Marqui Maresca with musical direction by Andrew Tinker. Little Shop of Horrors is a rock musical about a hapless florist who ends up raising a plant that feeds on human blood. The play runs August 19-22. Times are Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 7:30, and Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 2:30. Tickets are $18 for adults, $15 for students and seniors and $12 for children 10 and under.
