Since edging out thousands of contestants in the Season 7 of American Idol, Syesha Mercado’s life has been a whirlwind tour of road trips from coast to coast.
On June 25, 2009 it was officially confirmed that she had landed the role of Deena Jones in the US National Tour of DREAMGIRLS, a theatrical endeavor like those encouraged early on by American Idol Judge Kara DioGuardi; “She shines when she does theatrical songs she finds personality. She could be an R&B pop singer a la Alicia Keys.”
The National Tour of DREAMGIRLS, sponsored by Johnson and Johnson’s AMBI Skincare, has already made a stop in Los Angeles and recently laid stakes at the Music Hall at Fair Park in Dallas.
Following her performance, Syesha spent time at a meet and greet in her honor with local media and AMBI Skincare representatives where she spoke about her life on the road since American Idol.
“Dallas is one of the friendliest cities we have toured,” she said.
Makeup artist Joy Marcelle is responsible for managing Syesha’s fresh onstage look with her rich-toned skin. The climate changes are rough on these actors, Marcelle stated.
Syesha added that in addition to taking care of her skin she keeps in shape while traveling by fitting in a yoga class whenever possible and spurred laughter among the crowd when she said her 15 second quick-changes backstage keep her fit as well.
