New Organization Aims to Emphasize Conservative Principles

Earlier this month, I became a founding member of the “Independent Conservative Republicans of Texas” (ICROT).  By now you may have heard of the organization from its attention nationally on Fox news and locally on the Mark Davis radio program.  I am proud to be a part of the organization, and I would like to take this opportunity to speak to why this group was formed, and what the expectations are as we move into the future.

Fifteen Republican State Senators have now joined along with over ninety percent of my Republican State Representative colleagues in creating this organization so that we can affirm our pledge to defend the values and principles on which our nation was founded.  We offer our promise to make America and Texas stronger by defending individual liberty, freedom, and the free market ideals that have made our nation the envy of the world.

It is our belief that many of today’s issues and political debates have distracted both political parties from the core principles that have shaped our nation.  It is our goal to not only bring attention back to these principles, but to also defend them at every turn of the road with the votes we cast, the speeches we give, and our unwavering passion for our country’s continued prosperity during these unique and challenging times.  Specifically, each member of this new organization has pledged to uphold the following:

1. To put the interests of our citizens before the ambitions of either political party,
2. To be fiscally accountable, limit the size of government and fight for our free market approach,
3. To protect our borders and support a strong military,
4. To protect life, support strong family values and uphold Judeo-Christian beliefs, and
5. To defend our nation’s constitution and to protect the sovereign rights of Texas.

These five core principles are widely believed to be critical to our nation’s future, yet with each passing day, they are increasingly threatened.  That is why lawmakers in Texas came together to form ICROT, to bring the focus back to these five values so that our children and grandchildren will be afforded the same opportunities in life that we have been blessed with.

Progress has already been made.  More people are talking about this return to our government’s roots.  Already over 70,000 people have visited www.icrepublicans.com and 2,000 notes of encouragement have been left on our website.  In the short time that this organization has formed: more current and prospective Texas lawmakers continue to join, other states are forming similar organizations and, most importantly, our five core principles are already returning to the forefront of our policy debates.

I am honored to join Senators Nelson, Harris, Estes and Representatives Somolons and Crownover as members of the Denton County delegation dedicated to this cause.  Together we will continue to advocate for the values and beliefs that you have entrusted with us.
