School Board candidate orientation planned

The Lewisville Independent School District will host its first Board Candidate Orientation on Thursday, March 4, from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Bolin Center in Lewisville.

The orientation will allow community members interested in running for the May 8 School Board election to meet seated Board members, learn Board member requirements, receive current district demographics as well as ask questions about the roles and responsibilities of the Board of Trustees.

This is the first year for LISD Board members to host a candidate workshop.

“We wanted to host an orientation to meet the candidates as well as share district information,” said Carol Kyer, Board President.

Candidates who have filed as of Feb. 25 were personally invited by the district to attend the workshop.

Currently, Tommy Kim, Kathy Duke and Fred Placke are seeking another term on the board in Places 3, 4, and 5, respectively.

Challengers who have filed include Jeff Knapp for Place 3; Ryan Collinsworth for Place 4, and Brenda Latham and Patrick Kelly for Place 5.

The last day to file for the May 8 LISD Board of Trustees election is Monday, March 8.
