Group Gets the Skinny on Losing Weight

A new weight loss group in Flower Mound learned how to shed pounds without ever being hungry from two people who should know – they lost a combined 520 pounds.

Standing next to life-sized cut outs of themselves at their heaviest, Rebecca Wheatley and Roberto Enrieu shared their inspirational stories on January 5th at Flower Mound Community Church. The two British weight loss champs were in town on a tour of North Texas speaking to Slimming World groups.

Wheatley was a British soap opera star who finally grew tired of being famous for being fat.

“At a size 32, I was the ultimate unapologetic “big girl”, forever making bold comments about my size, describing myself as the ‘deluxe model’ and proclaiming the typical ‘big is beautiful’ mantra,” Wheatley told the group. “Despite all my bravado, I was ashamed I’d let myself get so big.” She lost 170 pounds and has kept it off for two years.

Roberto Enrieu once tipped the scales at 580 pounds.

“One of the biggest blows was a humiliating experience at a job interview,” he recalled. “As soon as I saw that the interview chair had arms I knew what was going to happen – and sure enough, I sat down and heard a big crack. I broke the chair.”

He lost 350 pounds and has kept it off for two years. His visit to DFW was the first plane trip he had taken in two decades because he couldn’t fit on a plane.

Both adopted the Slimming World plan to become half the person they once were. The plan doesn’t involve pills, potions or calorie counting.

“At this time of year many people are looking for a truly effective solution to their weight problems, and there’s a lot of confusing information out there,” says local group leader Carol Twyman. “Slimming World is Britain’s most popular way to lose weight, and there are no gimmicks or fads. Everything you need can be found at any grocery store. The plan isn’t a diet, it’s a lifestyle. The secret is eating plenty of good, healthy foods, so you never feel hungry or deprived, and getting lots of genuine support at our group each week.”
