Foster Care and Adoption Program

Creating Safe Places To Call Home

Interested in learning more about our Foster Care and Adoption program? We are excited to help you with your journey. Whether you are considering fostering, adopting, or simply want to explore ways to support youth in our community, our team is here to provide information and guidance. Join us in making a positive impact on the lives of youth in need.

In our community, the need for foster care is urgent. Every day, children face circumstances that lead to their removal from their homes, often due to abuse, neglect, or other traumatic situations. In 2023, there were more than 2,000 youth in foster care in North Texas and 77% of them were forced to move to other regions due to limited available foster care placements. Recognizing this need, we created this program to serve community-based foster homes in Denton, Tarrant, Collin, Wise, Cooke, Grayson, Johnson, and Dallas County.

Foster Care and Adoption

At Cumberland Youth and Family Services, foster parents receive specialized training, guidance, and support to be able to provide quality care in a family setting for children and adolescents who cannot remain with their families. The training provided exceeds the state’s minimum requirements so that foster families are equipped to meet the needs of children and youth who have experienced abuse or neglect. A dedicated case management team is available at all times to address foster parent needs and emergencies. We seek to partner with families who can commit to caring for a child regardless of how long they will need to remain in placement and support children and their families through the reunification process.

Cumberland Youth and Family Services offers dual licensing to families, which means families can foster and adopt if choose to do so. When a child is unable to return home to their biological family, the foster family will have the opportunity to adopt the child.

Kinship Givers

As defined in the Fostering Connections to Success and Increasing Adoptions Act of 2008, Kinship Caregivers may complete the steps required for Foster Care and Adoption licensing. After becoming licensed, Kinship Caregivers receive the same benefits and support as non-relative foster homes. Cumberland Youth and Family Services provides licensing options for Kinship Caregivers.
