Argyle girls soccer team finishes strong PDF Print E-mail

The Argyle Lady Eagle soccer team finished their season at the top of its game...and its history.

At one point, the Lady Eagles were ranked third in the toughest district group in the state.

“I finally know what it feels like to play for Denton Ryan,“ said Ella Galvin, one of only two seniors on the team.

Argyle was up six goals to zero against Boswell, a 4A team.

Even though the Eagles finished with a 10-12-2 record, the excitement in the locker room for next season bubbles out the door.

Two of the top teams in the district went up to 5A next year, so in order to make the district playoffs in the future, Argyle will need to beat Lake Dallas High School and Denton High School.

The team swept Lake Dallas this year (2-0 and 1-0) and lost to Denton High 2-1 the first time and tied 1-1 the second.  With two excellent eight graders moving up into the Varsity team next year, losing the two seniors, hopefully, won’t hurt so bad.

What made the year spectacular?  The team scored 21 goals this year, up from 14 goals scored last year.

Last year in district game play, Argyle scored a total of 3 goals and conceded 40 goals.  This year, Argyle scored 7 goals and conceded 26.

"We more than doubled our goals scored and decreased goals against by almost 50 percent - extraordinary when four of the teams in our district play were ranked in the top 10 in state rankings for 4A," said head coach Jennifer Goodpaster.

The Lady Eagles did not lose to a single 3A team this year.

"We beat Prosper High school for the first time ever, winning  3-2.  A huge win for us - last year we lost 0-3," said Goodpaster. "We came in 2nd in a tournament…the first time ever the girls have placed in a tournament."

Since Goodpaster has been coach (2011 and 2012), there have been two out of three seniors who now play college soccer: Christina Odom (’11) playing for Concordia University, and now Ella Galvin (’12) signed to play with LSU Shreveport.
