An Open Letter to the Town of Flower Mound from the Lakeside DFW Team PDF Print E-mail
Written by Richard Myers

The Lakeside DFW team was concerned to see information that was circulated addressing Lakeside DFW, and we need to correct the inaccuracies contained in the information.  We understand that during the hubbub of election season, information is often sent that is inaccurate.  That seems to be the case with correspondence we encountered.  Despite this error, please know that we look forward to continue working with the Town to make sure that Lakeside DFW is a great project.

We would like to set the record straight on several issues:

1.  Lakeside DFW is not trying to bypass the Town’s mixed-used zoning process.  Actually, the Town’s staff has seemed somewhat confused by the process as this is the first time that a project in Flower Mound has ever applied for mixed-use zoning.  We have been trying to understand the zoning rules ourselves and need to make sure that the Town understands them, also.

2.  We are very proud of our development team’s reputation and background.  We previously delivered to the council many references from mayors, city managers, and city staff members of several adjacent suburbs like Southlake, Colleyville, and Argyle.  We welcome anyone to call the people on that reference list.

3.  We welcome the Town Council and any citizen to come tour The Village at Colleyville.  We get very positive reviews of the project from almost everyone that tours the project and spends some time there.  Colleyville’s city manager even owns a condominium in The Village!

4.  While our team is important to Lakeside, the project is much bigger than any one of us, no matter whether we are a council member, citizen, or developer.  Flower Mound has a strong mixed-use ordinance that has demanding quality standards and design requirements.  Thus, Lakeside’s success will depend on its zoning, not any one developer.  Just as the Campus Commercial zoning has shut down Lakeside since 1986, the mixed-use zoning will control the project for decades and help ensure its success, long after all of us are gone.

5.  We have been very open about the project plans, our background, and our experience ever since last September when we got involved with Lakeside.  We have met with hundreds of Flower Mound citizens during the last nine months.  Interestingly, the vast majority of them are enthusiastic about Lakeside.  I am proud of that effort and am proud of the intelligence and sophistication of Flower Mound residents.  They know a good project when they see one.

6.  We are sorry if anyone has interpreted our outreach efforts as a way to influence the election.  We are happy to work with anyone on the council who is interested in making Lakeside a success.  Please note that we have a policy of not contributing to political candidates, and we have not contributed to any candidates in this election.  We have not allowed any candidates to post signs at Lakeside DFW.

I would be delighted to meet with any council member or citizen to clear up any misconceptions that you may have about Lakeside DFW, our company, or our background.  Please feel free to contact me anytime, and we can meet or discuss any issues on the telephone.  As mentioned above, we greatly look forward to working with the Town to make Lakeside DFW a place people love in Flower Mound.

NFL sent out political propaganda against Lakeside. NFL will never allow Lakeside. They stopped Kroger from being competitive. Contrary to what they say, Market Street has not even submitted an application. NFL is not acting like council should. They are closed for business and all they do it fight.
Vote for Hayden, Dixon and Webb. FM can then recover from all of the damage they have done. Vote NO on all charter items, unless you want to give NFL more power. Go to the polls - make time today for the future of FM.

@Brent - I read the email Lakeside sent out. It talks about why the zoning change is needed. How is saying the project is one council vote away trying to sway the election? I think it is true that council has to vote right?

Even if the NFL thinks that why not just say that and loose all the other negative stuff? Sometimes as a leader you need to rise above and not let your hurt feelings get in the way. Putting the whole project in jeopardy because you got your feelings hurt seems reckless and petty.

I do want to restate I don't see how Lakeside's email is trying to influence the election.

@why, seems to me at the April council meeting Northern was trying to let things play out as they are suppose to through the town's due diligence process. Myers brought the fight to Northern by sending out the email trying to impact the election earlier this week. Good for her for defending herself.

And what is this quote from Myers that "the Town’s staff has seemed somewhat confused by the process." LOL! I hope people wake up to what is happening here.

Mr. Meyers offered to discuss all of these issues when he met with Council in April. I'm don't understand why she wouldnot bring all of this up then. It seems very cowardly and inappropriate. I wonder how she expects to work with him in the future if she wins.

If a new drilling permit meets the requirements of one of the toughest ordinances round these here parts, why wouldn't that permit be acceptable?

@Jodie,
I really was not being rhetorical with my questions. I would sincerely like to know how do we know that the owner won't allow it in the future? Is the deed restriction irrevocable? Does it apply to pad sites and long distance drilling from off property? I'm sure you asked these things. Also, who used a town website to humiliate someone? That's an accusation I don't think you can back up. If you are talking about the mayor, her email came from her campaign email address not the town. I think she has every right to contact her campaign distribution list with her view that this guy is trying to influence her election.

@Brent,
I respect Tammi Vajda very much. I think she is not only an amazing person but someone who is really passionate about so many things. Up until know I have considered her a very dear friend and I hope that she and I will be friends when this is all over.

My comments are not directed at Tammi specifically but rather at the way things have been gone down with this development and developer.

I do not understand why we as a town insist on publically humiliating someone with a town website, ect. The Stewart's have owned this land for 39 years, 18 years ago the master plan was impossed that kept them from developing the way the wanted.

The town says its holding out for campus commerical. For 24 years it has been zoned Campus Commerical, that boat has sailed... if a Campus project was going to come along .. it would have already been done.. Im saying.. look at options...

@ Fiction I'd have to agree with Brent. We're talking about an egregious act, not an oversight in due diligence. It's an issue of trust and fiduciary responsibility. Do a little googlin' yourself and it don't much to see this development has the potential for disaster.

@Fiction. I would agree that lawsuits are common but the guy was found guilty of fraud. That's not the same as a contract dispute. Fraud involves deception.

Here is an article about it. You can see it's not your typical contract dispute: http://pahumphrey.com/blog/favorite-stories/hospital-dreams-dashed-in-real-estate-fraud-scheme/
