I moved to Flower Mound 6 years ago. Since I have lived here I have heard many stories about how much the police officers like to give tickets. Well now I have to say I have experienced it myself. I was driving on 2499, was pulled over and had no idea why. When the officer approached my car, I asked her what I did. Her response was that I did not have on my seat belt. Well I did, however I was told I was wearing it improperly (never heard of this but it carries the same citation and cost as no seat belt: $147.00. I told the officer I had injured my shoulder and that is why I had it off my shoulder and under my left arm pit because it rubbed on my shoulder. Her response was “did I have a doctor’s note”. No I did not, but now I do now. I will be going to court with my note and hopefully the judge will understand. I had no idea about this law...so PLEASE let me pass this knowledge on to all....WEAR YOUR SEATBELT PROPERLY or have a note. When I went to the court to get a court date, I was told it was not in the system (it had been 32 hours later, and the best I could figure is it was the end of 2 workshifts) and I would have to come back. If Flower Mound officers want to write these tickets, I feel they should at least finish the paperwork before the end of their shift that day.

If we have Flower Mound police officers spending their time looking for reasons to write seatbelt violations, then our police force is clearly overstaffed and/or mismanaged. Yet another example of poor Town management and governance.

My husband and I had a similar experience re an alleged seatbelt violation. We were stopped and had no idea why until the officer accused my husband of not wearing his seatbelt. He was. It would have been easier just to pay the ticket, but we decided to contest the charge. Like Susan, it took two trips to the courthouse just to locate the ticket. The officer was incredibly rude and admitted in court that it was his job that day to find reasons to write tickets for seatbelt violations. After the prosecutor strongly suggested that I was probably lying to protect my husband, we lost, of course. Somehow I feel vindicated just saying all of this.

We have lived in Flower Mound for 15 years. It's a nice town, but the police department leaves much to be desired.

Quoting Shannon:
I recieved the same ticket for the same thing - although the reason I was wearing mine that way was due to a parial mesectomy I had a few years ago that has scar tissue that is very sensitive. I don't have a note and would have to go back to the doctor in a different state to get proof, but I explained this to the officer and he was very rude and said my breast had nothing to do with my safety, and it would be a shame to die over something that hurt a little bit. Real compassionate group of officers you guys have here in Texas.

Really sorry to hear of your experience. That is simply not acceptable - even in this age of decline in morals and common human decency here in the USA.

Thank you for sharing what must have been very uncomfortable to put out in the public realm.

Make them accountable. They are employed to protect & serve.
Cops that are ahos should be FIRED!
Traffic cops should always show courtesy 1st.

The arrogant attitude of the police will only get worse as we continue down the current path we are on. Rule of law is giving way to rule of man. Common courtesy and decorum is waning, as incivility and disdain for the average citizen is waxing.

We are fast becoming subjects rather than citizens. Get used to it.

Pam: have you met the Police Chief? This might explain why the officers are rude.

I was justiafiably pulled over a few months ago for speeding. I didn't argue with the officer, my children were in the car and I hoped to set a good example of accepting consequences.

However, the officer was INCREDIBLY RUDE to me and when I asked why, he yelled that he was only answering my questions, etc. It was amazing.

I wrote to the police chief about this unjustified behavior, and I got a note back saying that they had reviewed the video and the officer was only being "firm" and found nothing wrong with his behavior.

Many of the police officers in our town are good people and do an excellent job. But many seem to have a chip on their shoulders and enjoy harrassing residents and I have never understood why.
