During the Aug. 9 Lewisville ISD Board of Trustees meeting, the board took action on the Superintendent of Schools search process, suspended the random drug testing program for high school students and adopted the 2010-11 Student Code of Conduct. The board approved a measure to hire a search firm to perform a national search for the district's next Superintendent of Schools. Board members directed the administration to seek bids from superintendent search firms. After the proposals are submitted, the board will interview the qualified search firms and approve its choice at a future meeting. The data showed that out of about 4,600 random drug tests, just 81 returned positive. Out of the 81 positive tests, a portion was students who refused to participate in the test. Officials said that even though the random drug testing program has been suspended, LISD counselors will continue to keep an eye on students who show signs of substance abuse.
